One Year and Counting

October 20 marks our first anniversary at Pulp Erotica. It's been an enjoyable and rewarding experience to put our fantasies in black and white for the world to read, and to rack our brains to come up with new ones. And it's been interesting to see people respond to the idea that sex stories can be full of chills and adventure as well as kink. We believe the sex is more thrilling with a little suspense to heighten the experience.

For our second editorial (and because we haven't finished that story about a captive white girl fleeing her Indian husband), we present our first annual report.

Financial Statement

Initial capital outlay for the site was $55.04 (all amounts in US dollars). This covered the overhead costs of domain registration ($20) and 6 months of hosting by ExtremeHosting ($35.04). In all, total operating expenses for fiscal year 2002 were $94.08, including a one-time charge of $4 for extra traffic usage in April. However, payroll charges of $148 million put the total expenses for 2002 at $148,000,094.08.

Pulp Erotica began taking on advertisers in February, the first being Cold Sex. While this advertiser has yet to pay a single return, others have stepped in to take up the slack. Total revenues for the year amount to $100.96, exclusively from Most Erotic Teens and DOMAI.

This equates to a net loss for the year of $147,999,993.12. Since, without payroll expenses, the company would have experienced a net profit of $6.88, and since the president's salary accounts for 100% of the $148 million payroll expense, the decision has been made to reduce the president's salary from $148 million per annum to $0 immediately.

Cash being short, in lieu of salary payment, the president has graciously elected to accept a 100% share of the company for a negotiated price of $147,999,993.12, a spectacular buyout price for a small company nearly $150 million in debt. This effectively wipes the books clean.

Next year looks promising, considering that advertising has only been in place for eight months or so and considering that we've added more advertisers recently, including Scream and Cream and, via the Library pages, Amazon.com.

Readership

Visitors to Pulp Erotica tend to come from Google's search results or Google's news group pages, specifically the alt.sex.stories.moderated (ASSM) group in which most new Pulp Erotica stories are posted at the same time they are published. Numbers are regularly close to 3,000 visits per month.

Search results that lead surfers to us lean toward direct name searches and terms like "damsels" and "distress," with the occasional "drugged," "bond," and "virgin."

The most popular pages tend to be the newest stories posted to ASSM, naturally, with "Little Lotus" and "Passion for Poison" scoring high lately, and the interactive story "Doctor's Orders" always doing well (probably because the interactive nature encourages multiple visits to the start page).

In addition to hints provided by this indirect feedback, the popular anonymous message feature at the bottom of every story has prompted multiple suggestions for more pregnancy stories (see sidebar).

The Future

What does the future hold for Pulp Erotica? While there are pregnancy stories in the works, there are others as well. We hope to have more stories from PleaseCain, the contributor who has offered us three stories recently, and more art from (or at least similar to that of) Gozer the Gozerian, whose weird-menace impregnation art has livened up the site.

We also hope to produce a little less kink and fetish and a little more real pulp adventure stories, including another installment of the crimefighter The Panther, Pulp Erotica's first series character, and the first installment of wry detective David Manners.

But before these, look for stories about "a father's lust for his teen daughter driving him to take her and her best friend to a nudist camp" and "a captive white girl fleeing her Indian husband...."
