Pulp Erotica

Year Two in Review

by: Punchinello, Mar/01/05

We missed our second anniversary back in October. I think the second anniversary is the paper anniversary, so perhaps we should buy ourselves a "Sorry I missed our anniversary" card. For our fifth editorial (and because we stillover a year later—haven't finished that story about a captive white girl fleeing her Indian husband), we present our year in review.

We started off the year a little weak, with visits dipping down around 1,500 a month. A couple of chiding e-mails prompted us to add a disclaimer to the About page, which we've since toned down. We are what we are at Pulp Erotica, and we make no apologies for it (sorry).

We also converted the site to use some simpler spellings (tho, thru, thoro, altho...), and we make no apologies for that either. We may look like racist chauvinist bad spellers, but we know what we're doing. We don't require submissions to adhere to these spellings. But if Teddy Roosevelt, Mark Twain, George Bernard Shaw, Melvil Dewey (the Dewey decimal system guy), and The Chicago Tribune can dare spelling reform, so can a tiny Web-based erotica site.

Then traffic took off when we got on a couple of prominent sites, and we've enjoyed around 7,000 visits a month ever since. Several fine submissions kept the site going while I personally suffered a dry spell during which I was unable to finish even one story for several months. We did continue adding excerpts, tho, and creating even more cover art that we haven't have the inspiration to write excerpts for.

Some prompting from an enthusiastic reader encouraged us to write a couple of new stories finally, altho we still haven't finished the ones we promised over a year ago would be next.

Hey, inspiration can't hail a cab, jack.

We also still haven't gotten around to adding secret messages to each story (or have we...?).
