An excerpt
from City of Brass
Pathna stood erect
before the great golden mirror and called out. "Mirror of Shalaq-na,
bring forth your servant."
The mirror quavered,
causing Pathna to take a step back. Smoke issued from the edges, white
and wispy, curling up into the darkness of the cave.
The mirror quavered
again and began to vibrate, emitting a low hum. A light shine out and
smoke suddenly poured out of the face of the glass.
Then, out of the smoke,
a slender leg appeared. Out stepped a genie in the form of a young woman,
pale-skinned and beautiful, with yellow hair and gleaming blue eyes. She
was naked but for sheer pantaloons that showed that even the hair between
her thighs was yellow. Pathna stood amazed.
"What is your
name?" he asked.
"Q'arasa,"
she spoke. Her voice was a noble tone, lower than a girl's, but placid
and warm, like the smoke she appeared from.
"Q'arasa, I am
your master," Pathna said with false confidence.
"I am your servant,
master," the genie said. And with that she kneeled before him and
kissed his foot.
